About

Built for beginners.
Designed around confidence.

Strumm was created for people who want to learn acoustic guitar properly, but don't want to feel lost, rushed, or out of place.

After years of playing guitar, I've seen how quickly beginners can give up when lessons move too fast, feel too technical, or leave them practising alone without direction. Strumm is built differently.

Our courses are structured, practical, and beginner-friendly from the first lesson. Students learn in small age-based groups — Juniors for ages 7–17 and Seniors for ages 18+ — so everyone learns with people at a similar stage of life and confidence level.

Each group follows the same 12-week curriculum, with clear weekly progress, real songs, practical acoustic guitar skills, and a final performance piece. The goal is not just to learn a few chords — it's to help every student feel confident enough to keep playing long after the course ends.

FAQ

Questions?

None at all. Strumm is entry-level only — every student starts from scratch. You don't need to know how to hold a guitar, read music, or understand chords. We start at the very beginning and build from there.
The Juniors group is open to ages 7–17. Children younger than 7 are considered case by case — feel free to reach out and we'll have a chat.
Absolutely. The Seniors group is designed specifically for adults aged 18 and up. Many of our students are adults who always wanted to learn but never had the right opportunity. There is no age limit — if anything, adults often pick it up faster because they practise with intention.
Yes. You'll need your own acoustic guitar to attend lessons and practise at home. A basic steel-string acoustic in the R800–R1500 range is perfect for beginners. We recommend visiting Sheen Music in Pretoria — they stock good beginner options and the staff are helpful. If you're unsure what to buy, reach out before your first lesson and we'll point you in the right direction.
An acoustic steel-string guitar. Not a classical (nylon string) guitar, and not an electric. A standard acoustic is the right starting point for this course — it builds finger strength and technique that transfers well to any style later on.
Just a plectrum and a tuner (a clip-on tuner or a free tuning app on your phone works perfectly). Everything else — chord cards, lesson sheets, practice trackers, a strumming guide, and a tuning guide — is included in your STRVMM Student Starter Pack, which comes with your once-off registration fee.
Lessons run on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. The Juniors group (ages 7–17) is at 18:00–18:45, and the Seniors group (ages 18+) is at 19:00–19:45. You choose your preferred day when you apply.
45 minutes. Each session is structured, focused, and moves at a pace that works for beginners — no wasted time, no rushing.
A maximum of 4 students per session. Always. Small groups mean more time on the guitar, quicker feedback, and a better learning environment for everyone.
By the end of the course you'll be able to tune your guitar, play the essential open chords, strum in time, read a basic chord chart, and perform a complete beginner piece. The course covers chords, strumming patterns, rhythm, basic fingerpicking, simple guitar tab, and song structure — everything you need to keep playing confidently after the course ends.
We don't offer refunds for missed sessions, but we'll do our best to accommodate you in a group on a different day if space allows. If you know in advance that you'll miss a lesson, let us know as early as possible — you can also submit a reschedule request directly from your student portal.
The once-off registration fee (R) is paid upfront when your spot is confirmed — this secures your place and covers your Student Starter Pack. For monthly enrolment, R is due at the start of each month (R total). If you pay the full course upfront, it's R — saving you R compared to monthly payments.
The once-off R registration fee covers your STRVMM Student Starter Pack: a flip file, plectrum, pen, chord cards, weekly lesson sheets, practice trackers, a tuning guide, and a strumming guide. Your certificate of completion is also included and awarded at the end of Session 12.
